Additional Marking Tips for UPSR English (013/023/014/024)
Here are some additional tips to the marking of UPSR English Paper 1 and Paper 2 for the references of teachers.
013 /023 (Paper 1)
Section A
# computer checked
# blacken neat and tidy
# use 2B pencil
# blacken carefully according to the shape
Section B
Question 21
# Format unchanged but layout may be changed, eg questions
on social expression. Usually 3 questions, it can be 4 .
# written in full sentence
# be creative and imaginative
# write nicely
# Don’t write : I gonna bring my umbrella. / Yes, bro, I
think it’s correct.
# Yes/ No / Okay / O.K. ( is acceptable)
# Good answer + good grammar = 2 marks
# 2 speakers upper bubble ( speak first ) and lower bubble (
second speaker)
# answer maybe : 1. Statement & statement 2. Question & respond
Question 22
a & b
# tick one answer only ( if the question tick means tick, if
cross means cross, if circle then pupils need to circle)
# no ½ marks
# rejecting request is an incorrect answer (depends on the
text and question)
# NO (is not a good answer. Depends on the text as well)
# better teach pupils to answer YES than NO
# Don’t write rudely
# Don’t use negative statements or informal language
# IF pupils answer YES or NO (1 mark)
# Another mark for good reasons and proper grammar
Question 23 (c)

# Abbreviations & acronyms e.g KL or SK are counted as 1
unit however if it’s SK St Teresa, that would be 3 words.
# Kg, cm or RM are also counted as 1 unit but RM 30 will be

# For emails or letter writing, word count starts often
after salutation.
eg:
Dear John,
I hope you are fine ( Word count starts from I)
# Complementary closure for email should be on the left hand
side
# Section C Question 1, word count starts from the candidate’s
own word, the words given are not counted
# 80 – 100 words exceed will not be read
# Be short and precise
# 3 paragraph is beautiful
# Indent the paragraph
